Shortstop

Finally getting a chance to give Mr.Bloggington some attention here. Things have been much busier than usual as of late.

Entry #50 was a bit of a nightmare to shoot. Scheduling conflicts all over the place. I think the total number of days it took to get it all shot ended up being about four. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that it's the entry that  spanned the most days in terms of shooting beginning to end. It was mostly due to the fact that the entire thing had to be shot around sundown, so we'd run out of light very quickly, especially while in the woods, which blocked out a ton of the little bit of sunlight we already had. There was one or two spots in the finished entry where the lighting wasn't consistent because of that, but overall I think I got it as good as I could possibly get it.

To those of you asking: No, Entry #50 was not the final entry of the second season. Although it is very very close to it. We're officially in the home stretch now, I feel.

Entry #51 has been fully shot. It went much better than the previous shoot, requiring only two days to get done. I'm in the process of editing it now, and should be done with it no later than Tuesday. It would be going a bit faster if I didn't have so much other stuff to get done at the moment. I'm currently working the light board for the UA theatre department's production of Animal Crackers. While it's a ton of fun, it's also very time consuming and is usually scheduled during the best "editing hours" for me. I've been squeezing in some time here and there though. Thanks for being patient, as usual!

Now that we're finally getting close to wrapping up Season 2, it's time to start talking about the Season 2 DVD. Although it hasn't been officially confirmed as of yet, I don't see why we wouldn't do it after how well the first one sold. So here's my question to you: What would you most like to see in the next DVD?

I know there were a few things people wanted more of, and a few things that were left out without my knowledge, in the Season 1 DVD so I want to do the next one as right as possible this time around. So suggest away, loyal folk. I'm all ears.

  1. season 2 dvd should come with a masky mask. that is all

    ReplyDelete
  2. Bloopers, deleted scenes, a timeline, commentary...

    ReplyDelete
  3. Include a lot more bloopers than the first DVD. They were kind of lacking.

    ReplyDelete
  4. This comment has been removed by the author.

  5. The bloopers were really nice, I'd like to see those again, if it wouldn't be too much of a bother. :3 thank you for working so hard! We really appreciate it!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I originally supplied the DVD "team" with more bloopers for the first one, but a lot of them were cut out for some reason. Gonna make sure that doesn't happen this time.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Maybe a different way to incorporate the tweets in-between the entries. That way, when you hit play all, it flows more like it does in real time. I understand it's hard to make the dvd have the same feeling as watching in real time, but if I were to lend someone the dvd, having the tweets incorporated into the play instead of in a different section would be a great way for a stranger to the series to be able to keep up with everything.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I still think "Marble Hornets: First Takes Only Edition" needs to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Bloopers and Commentary again. :3

Also maybe some way to incorporate the "correct" speculations of the TTA clips? I understand you're keeping those in the dark for good reasons though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. I would pay a little extra to get pimped out with some marble hornets swag. Even if it was just a back shirt that said marble hornets on it, or something with the operator symbol.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Maybe have the ACTUAL TTA names instead of "totheark response 1"

    ReplyDelete
  12. Have the date of the entry when it was posted for each of them. Also, have some behind the scenes footage and re-visit some of the shooting areas and talk about how you guys did it and how you did some of the special effects.

    ReplyDelete
  13. in the DVD, could you include the backstory behind the designs of Tim's mask and the Hoodie?

    ReplyDelete
  14. There's a couple of improvements I would suggest: 1). Having the tweets be interspersed between each entry. 2). Having the ToTheArk entries with their proper names. Those were the two big things. I think the menu the DVD opens with is really, really cool, and I promise if you release a season 2 DVD I'll buy it. I'd also buy a shirt with an Operator symbol on it too.

Also, please hide that short film about your cat somewhere in there, because it's awesome.

  15. Personally i dont care about bloopers or deleted scenes. I would really like more behind the scenes stuff, i liked the first dvd, but i was a little disappointed that the commentary track was just some joking around. Would be neat with some more insight how the series is made, without spoiling anything of course.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I just finished ordering your first season while I was also buying a copy of Ink from double edge films. Would be nice to see some of their options on your season 2 package like option for auto-graphed copy or maybe a poster. I liked the above comment of maybe a Mask or how about a Slender man Doll :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love the commentary on the 1st DVD, so please keep the tangential stories and terrible jokes.

I'm really a sucker for behind-the-scenes type footage too, although I'm sure a lot of that will be more appropriate on the 3rd season DVD, when the story's over and all is revealed (or not).

    ReplyDelete
  18. A very nice edition would be a behind the scenes look at how you edit.
Besides that, I would like to see a firmer case, a "where's waldo?" moment on the case, and maybe some fancy sticker sheet with it. (operator symbol preferred or some Tim sideburns stuff)
and...................LOTS OF EASTER EGGS and REFERENCES

    ReplyDelete
  19. I want to see Joseph Plays a trumpet hidden somewhere on the DVD

    ReplyDelete
  20. I'm seconding the timeline and the behind-the-scenes. More deleted scenes if you had any. While the commentary and bloopers were certainly amusing, the DVD kind of felt like it lacked any sort of "the making of" type of footage. There were a few deleted scenes/additional takes, but they really didn't seem like they had much context.

Also, any interviews you've done may be nice to hear, like the one you put up on your channel. Speaking of which, I'm wondering if you'd be interested in agreeing to an interview once season 2 is over, but that's just a thought at this point.

One more thing: It might be nice to see more from Kirill Baru. He's listed as a writer and producer of Marble Hornets, but we hear so little from/about him in terms of Marble Hornets production.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh God yes. I second putting Joseph Plays a Trumpet somewhere on the DVD, hidden or not. In glorious HD quality.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yeah, I'd like to know the kind of thought processes you guys put into making Marble Hornets. Like how you guys worked out the story. I know you can't reveal too much but a little about the story telling aspect of Marble Hornets would be cool.

Also more stuff like this http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lpcy42iriX1qjmnet.gif

    ReplyDelete
  23. deleted scenes, whether "bloopers" or just extra shots would be awesome.

if you could keep the commentary at the same level as the last DVD that'd be good.

i dunno, anything fun you could do, like a "stupid theories you've heard" thing or a "silly questions you've got from family/friends" or something.

    ReplyDelete
  24. As far as DVD content, I agree with all of the above (concerning blooper reels, behind the scenes footage and better integration of the tweets) but what I REALLY want is some Marble Hornets merch.

Masky masks, hoodies, t-shirts :) Even if it just said "Marble Hornets" "ToTheArk" or had an Operator Symbol that would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  25. More in-depth commentary! It was hilarious to hear yall joking around in the background, but I would have liked to hear more talking about the actual entries during the commentary.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Is there anyway to know if a box set will be coming out? Or maybe if we order season 1 and 2 at the same time we could get a discount? I've been putting off buying season1 for a while now and since I finally have the money I'm not sure if I want to hold off in hopes of a box set or just buy it now......

    ReplyDelete
  27. More informative commentary, please. As funny as Season 1's were, I was actually disappointed that you didn't spend more time talking about... well, the videos themselves. Also, more bloopers (please?) and even just a PICTURE of Kirill.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'd say bloopers, commentary, and maybe a little thing about the Slenderman mythos. General feelings on it, series you want to give shootouts to, other influences, etc

    ReplyDelete
  29. Although I'm pretty much just saying the same things as everybody else here...

    - If you find a way that makes sense to include them, the Twitter posts would be great to have in-between entries (especially in cases like #37 where the Tweets were quite important).
    - Giving the official names of each TTA entry would be a huge help, especially since the names always get confusing and trying to look up 'that one with that thing in it' is easier if the names are there.
    - Glad to hear you had more bloopers and deleted scenes in mind. Those are always a hoot, especially since you are all so freakin' hilarious when you're goofing off on camera.
    - Anything making-of would be huge. Either commentary track or a featurette with some behind-the-scenes footage or explanation of things would be killer. It's the one part of DVDs that I've gotten into since starting film school, and it's one thing I've been really wanting more of regarding the series.
    - Just a suggestion here too - I know it would be a bit of an extra cost to us, but if it'd help with making everything 'fit' and not killing it all with super-compression (the first DVD had a lot of artifacts in the video) maybe doing two DVDs? You could have one with all the main series stuff, and the other with the 'special features' (the making of, bloopers, etc.). Even if it was sold separately, or as two different options (one-disc set or two-disc set). Just a thought, in case space becomes an issue.

Looking forward to the next release! (Both in terms of Entries and the DVD!)

    ReplyDelete
  30. So, so far, we have merch, tweets and extras...

I asked the unfiction crowd for you though, you know, all 3 who don't read your blog anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  31. A timeline sounds really badass. Uh. Bloopers again, that sort of thing. Are you going to release a box set when season 3 is done?

Personally I'd love to see some of the random notes from scripting, if possible.

    ReplyDelete
  32. http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=33401

    ReplyDelete
  33. In the next DVD, I would like to see more behind the scenes, unused takes, etc. than in the last one. Basically, more content of that sorts. Also, another funny commentary.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would love to see some behind the scenes or an other interview. More insight of what goes on during fliming and junk.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Yeah, Better commentary. While I found your commentary funny, I think it would be interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look or listen in on the actual show.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I definitely agree that the commentary should have more to do with the videos themselves. I would love to hear the silly stories you've had with each entry. And also, more bloopers!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  37. MORE BLOOPERS. so hilarious. :3

    ReplyDelete
  38. I liked pretty much everything in the DVD, just done a little more. More bloopers, a more detailed commentary (like you talk just a little into how you make the actual stories and intricate plots), deleted scenes are cool if you've got them. Maybe BTS if you really felt up to it. And the twitter thing was nice for anyone who totally missed it. I'd like a secret in the DVD though (that maybe led to the 2nd HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHADOW). And make another dvd menu that's just as cool as the first, because that was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  39. You should have an easter egg where you explain what that watermelon with the face carved in it was all about.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Definitely more bloopers, also like the ideas about the timeline and incorporating the Tweets.

As another suggestion perhaps a making of video diary for a separate entry where you film yourselves behind the scenes, things like location scouting, planning, shooting, editing and anything else that goes with it.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Try to make a more sophisticated commentary. The laid-back, funny commentary was okay and quite enjoyable at times, but it would definitely be nice if you guys didn't stray too far from talking about the videos.

I love hearing those stories about Applebees and people thinking you're gay, though, so I don't know.

Maybe you could have little pop-up notes in the commentary, so you could add in little things in that you didn't say vocally. For example, a note would pop up and say, "This took 8 takes, but blah blah blah," while you guys are talking about something else. I don't know if that's possible, but it's an idea.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Basically echoing everyone else who has said more in-depth commentary, bloopers, and definitely some behind-the-scenes stuff! I would love to see if there were any proposed designs for Masky or The Operator, and others, or how certain effects were shot/edited, what inspired the scenes, etc. Also, a few hidden Easter Eggs would be a real treat to try and find, too! The first DVD was a real treat to get, and I am really hopeful and excited for season two!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I would honestly pay a good amount for a hoodie with the symbol on it.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Bloopers are a must. And I know you guys are planning quality control on that, so I am expecting awesome.

Commentary would be nice, but, erm, a little better? I agree with whoever said more about the actual shooting, but tangents are nice, too...I hesitate to say, however true it is, that the best part of the last commentary was Tim.

As for incorporating the Twitter posts into the videos, it'd be kind of weird, but I know a lot of people have mentioned it. I feel like this would be difficult to pull off, but if there could be two playing options, one with Twitter updates and full chronology, and another with just the entries (and TTA entries, of course), I'd be okay with it.

Actual ToTheArk entry titles are a MUST.

If it wouldn't be too revealing, a chronology of the videos would be awesome, especially given how scattered it was.

The “deleted scenes” in season 1 were kind of neat, but a little pointless.

This might have been a better fit for the first DVD, but I'd like to see the radio interview that's on your YouTube.

An autographed copy would be neat. But hell, I'd buy a shitty hand-burned DVD from you guys.

    tl;dr: what everyone else said.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I am thirding the request that Joseph Plays A Trumpet be included on the Season 2 DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Seconding the Thought Process thing for the commentary. I love getting to see just how people think up things they do, even if there wasn't much of a reason besides "This would be cool" or if it's something really complex. That would be simply amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  47. - Two commentary tracks-- goofy and srs bsns! ..or just one serious one.

    - More bloopers/deleted scenes? :c

    - nthing the suggestion of mixing the Tweets in with the Entries!

    - Some kind of "filmamker"-esque First Run proof-of-purchase thing.

    - EASTER EGGS, maybe? :3

    - Not too sure on this one, but some sort of "PREVIOUSLY, ON MARBLE HORNETS" thing. Specifically, I was thinking of just putting in the tape from Entry 26 right at the start. Just the tape! 'Cause it's brought up throughout Part 2, and it does help to explain things. Of course, this one is perfectly fine if absent.

    - Maybe some troyhasacamera stuff?

    - PLEASE PLEASE FESTIVAL TRAILER FOR PART 2, OH GOD PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE. I LOVED THE FIRST ONE. I love trailers.

    - Trailer for your upcoming project(s)? 8D ...nah, it's fine.

    ReplyDelete
  48. This is probably not gonna be possible, but some kind of digital download version would be great for us over on the other side of the world. I never actually got around to getting the first one because I really don't have much money to begin with, and all the shipping and tax I'd have to pay to get it over here ended up being too much. I understand it's kind of a bad idea though because it probably would be more work that it'd be worth, plus it'd make it easier to just pirate and spread around the net, but yeah..

    ReplyDelete
  49. I would suggest two commentaries: one serious, for those of us who love behind-the-scenes, and one funny, since the last one was awesome.

Maybe some touring around areas used to film in the series so we can see what they're like in real life. The state park with the red tower in particular.

Mix in the tweets, add the proper totheark entry names, maybe some stuff about entries or ideas that were rejected or retooled in various ways? I agree with the tweets thing.

Oh, and add some of the comedy things you guys do. "Joseph Writes a Paper" and "Joseph Plays the Trumpet" are amazing and more people should see them.

    ReplyDelete
  50. more bonus features. deleted scenes are a must. they could be short, but have enough to give us an incentive to spend the money on the dvd.

perhaps some "behind the scenes" footage of how filming works, bonus TTA videos, a teaser for season 3, etc. take your time with the dvd and don't rush it out to ensure that we have some more to look forward to before season 3 begins.

if you guys were really cool you could include a marble hornets poster or something with it for the first 1k preorders or something, that'd be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Some sort of "Play All" button where it plays the Season 2 as a seamless, movie!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Could the DVD, perhaps in the outtakes and/or behind the scenes stuff, shed some light on the greatest mystery of the entire Marble Hornets Mythos.....

I am speaking of course, of the. Time Travelling Kid in the Spongebob Shirt

    ReplyDelete
  53. Bloopers, lots of bloopers! Behind the scenes, et cetera. The things everyone else has been suggesting... Oh, and merchandise! Like this I threw together on a hoodie designing website... and I'm now feeling inclined to buy it... :<

    ReplyDelete
  54. Definitely include the Joseph videos. And some with Tim. He does complete your cast, after all.

    ReplyDelete
  55. As others before me have said, a little insight into the process of producing an entry, from writing the script to editing the final product and adding some troyhasacamera videos and that radio interview would be very nice.
Also, I loved the fact you've got creative with the DVD menus. More of that would be cool.

(PS: Subtitles for the commentary would be appreciated, especially considering international fans who are not that good at listening English. I do know this idea's a bit far-fetched, though.)

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'd really like to see you make a serious commentary (along with a funny commentary?) track.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I really think a timeline would be fun for the final season, not this season. Kind of ruins the mystery that way.

The biggest ask I would want would be a better tweet system or even incorporating them into the run of the entries somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  58. at some point (maybe after next season), a full version of the Marble Hornets student film.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Honestly, I don't see why you guys don't take a larger profit (if any) from these DVDs. I would have no problem buying you guys a few beers for all the entertainment I got from your awesome series. Either that, or a paypal button somewhere so I can drop you a couple dollars. I'm sure this all cost you some money (and sleep).

    ReplyDelete
  60. I'm with the Turtle!^^

I can recognize hard work when I see it. Plus your whole concept and follow-through was just so GOOD.

That's what I want: add a PayPal option or something. It can be like a virtual tip jar.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think everything that was in the 1st DVD.
    More bloopers.
    Commentary.
The tweets area could use work.
start the twitpics with the last like 2 or 3 pictures that were in the 1st DVD.
Less of a description on the back.
have the TOTHEARK and the entry's on the same disc and have the extras on a second disc.
Have an option to watch the entry's and TOTHEARK videos in a correct order, like say Entry #something, then have the TOTHEARK response right after it.
No title for the TOTHEARK videos.

And if/when you make a 3rd season DVD, sell it both as a single unit and in a box set kind of thing. (Perhaps including a mask or long limed doll?)

It's a list for sure but any of this would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  62. For a special feature, I think it would be pretty fun to have a trailer for Marble Hornets, the fictional (terrible) student film that the Alex character was making.

    ReplyDelete
  63. My favorite kinds of special features for something like Marble Hornets that haven't been beaten into the dirt already by the above comments are deleted/alternate scenes, possibly interview vignettes with the hetero-life-partner triad, and honestly a still photo gallery would be great for those who want to get a decent quality image of the masks and whatnot.

    ReplyDelete
  64. ^^ Wow. Really? Still images of props? THAT'S what you want taking up space on the "Special Features" section of your hypothetical dream DVD? Dream a little smaller, says I!

Absolutely you should include an entry like the one Tim described in the commentary on Entry 25 of the first season DVD. You know what I'm talking about. I remember he goes on about how he wanted to "direct his own entry, maybe even have his own spin-off, maybe even sell his own DVD if it came to it" ... and proceeded to launch into the most bizarre (even for totheark) idea ever to be conceived .... I don't remember the exact wording here but it had something to do with French New Wave style and some weird close-up of Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Happy Birthday Shadow has to be on the DVD. It's practically required.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Please allow me to also ask for a "Play All" feature that incorporates tweets from both @marblehornets and @totheark. Not that you need advice, but to display the tweets, I would suggest black background, white courier new text that appears on screen as though it's being typed, throw in some of your lovely screen tearing effects while the text shows up and add your preferred eerie background sounds.

I don't know if incorporating a sense of the passage of time would help or dilute the suspense from entry to entry. For instance, if you put the words, "Two Weeks Later" or something like that before the content of the tweets. I would say, though, that simply stating the date before each tweet may prove confusing without including some sense of how much time passed between the last entry and the tweet in question. Either way, you'll get it right. I love your work. Keep it up!

One last thing: I would be sad to see a lack of bloopers in the Season 2 DVD, as I enjoyed them immensely for Season 1.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I know you've said before you've had issues with merch like shirt designs, but a lot of the fan community would love to help with designs I'm sure! I've seen some really neat jackets and shirts related to Marble Hornets.

Personally, I've got a few ideas rolling around my head. I've been playing around with some texography stuff from the Entry ##### speech on a jacket and have gotten a lot of great MH advertisement/questions from wearing it, just word-of-mouth stuff.

    -Meredith

    ReplyDelete
  68. I'd like to see a "I got molested by Slenderman and all I got was poison random endings centered excludes death encountering stale truth receives endangering every section waiting for you"

But, in all seriousness, everything that everyone here has requested. More bloopers, they were hilarious, more commentaries, they were hilarious, more fanteraction stuff. I would love to buy this.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Everything on the Season 1 DVD is great.
Maybe the script for Alex's film?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Pretty much the same as season 1 but more, and address the flaws, i.e. totheark entry names, more bloopers, informative commentary, etc.

I feel like integrating the tweets any differently than the season 1 dvd would be kind of awkward... Like, it would interrupt the flow if you had it automatically cycle through the tweets between entries, but maybe it's just me, as I've always watched MH as a movie. I think you should do the same thing with them as season 1 but put it on the first disc with the entries on them.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Oh, and don't do the "Or Slenderman will get you" thing..... I don't think that was you, but don't let them do that again.... A simple copyright warning is fine.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Maybe also something involving putting Marble Hornets to a laugh track, as was suggested in the commentary on season one. Totally not necessary though.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Better yet, make the copyright warning totheark styled.

    ReplyDelete
  74. As long as it has a commentary I'm happy. A laugh track like how you mentioned on the first DVD would be cool.

    ReplyDelete
