Wow, I'm kind of surprised no one clicked on the comma after the link in my last blog post. I figured someone would have noticed it immediately. Guess I'm getting too crafty, yeah?
No but seriously. I guess I should announce that thing now. Like I said earlier, a good number of you have already guessed it, so a good number of you can go ahead and pat yourselves on the back.
Marble Hornets is going to have a third season.
It's going to be the LAST season, for real this time. I know we said about a year ago that this season would be the end, but halfway through shooting it, we began to realize that we'd greatly underestimated how much time we'd need to devote to explaining the lost seven months. There wasn't really much time left afterwards to return to the present and show the ending, not to mention that the whole story felt incredibly cramped that way. So we decided to take the ending and devote an entire season to it. That way we don't feel like we're cheapening it by rushing into it after spending so much time somewhere else.
Sound good? We cool with that? Need more explaining? Okay, I can handle that.

Preemptive Season 3 FAQ:
Q: Will there be another seven month gap between seasons 2 and 3?
A: Nope. While I can't give a solid "release date" for it just yet, rest assured that it won't be that long. The gap between the seasons will only be as long as Joseph and I feel is necessary for us to cool down to avoid getting burnt out.
Q: Does this mean Season 2 is about to end?
A: Sorta kinda. I can't tell you how many entries are left in Season 2. It's not a double digit, though.
Q: Will there be a Season 2 DVD?
A: Nothing is set in stone yet, but I don't see why not. The first one sold (and is still selling) wonderfully.
Q: You're just doing this to make more money, aren't you?
A: Absolutely not. We're doing this to make the story we've had going for over two years finally be completed. I'm kind of bad about not finishing things I've started (case in point), so I'd like to go against the flow for once.
.
Q: The ending is going to be one giant ambiguous wad where nothing gets resolved and no questions are fully answered, isn't it.
A: Come on, I'm no David Lynch.
Q: Why are you announcing Season 3 before Season 2 is over? That spoils some of the mystery!
A: It's kind of unconventional for us, I'll admit, seeing as how we didn't announce Season 2 until about a month or so after Season 1. But I don't really see what part of the story is spoiled because of this.
-------------------------------------
Any other questions that you think I might be able to answer, go ahead and post them in the comments and I'll get back atcha.
I'm glad we'll be doing this one more time before wrapping everything up in a neat little box. Thanks in advance for continuing to watch! High fives all around!
*flail*
ReplyDeleteI have no questions, only joy.
Sweet. Congratulations guys! Q: When the season is over and done is a box set of MH going to be released?
ReplyDeleteYessssssssssssss. Great news!
ReplyDelete^box set of all three seasons would be awesome, even though i've already bought the first one.
ReplyDeleteEpic news guys. I can already tell season three is gonna be the best out of them all. When it's all over there'd better be that damn box set so I can watch it ALL at once. Or someone will get tackled. ._.
ReplyDeleteI second Emmaleigh's sentiments and Willow's question. X3
ReplyDeleteI have a question Troy: Will Brian, Sarah, Jessica, etc be re-appearing?
ReplyDeleteHah! Well, you caught me by surprise, but I have to say, it's the best surprise I've had all day.
ReplyDeleteNo idea about the box set thing. I'd love to do it though!
ReplyDeleteSo exciting! I'm so happy it's not close to being done yet... XD Thanks, Troy!
ReplyDeleteI will buy them all separately AND in a box set, I swear to god. I've enjoyed Marble Hornets immensely, it has been scaring the hell out of me for around a year now and I'm so happy that it's doing well and continuing.
ReplyDeleteUm....wow. Hooray!
ReplyDeleteQ: Will you please give us some merch? I'd be more than willing to shell out cash for an operator-symbol t-shirt, or a masky mask...or a pair of detachable Tim sideburns.
I noticed the extra period this time Troy.
ReplyDeleteI hope your serious about that.
Oh my god. HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHADOW PART 2?
ReplyDeleteTHE SAGA CONTINUES
@Allen: I'm still not really sold (pun intended?) on the idea of merch. Marble Hornets just doesn't seem to lend itself to that kind of thing. Maybe one day. Who knows.
ReplyDelete@Cody: I am!
yessssss. :D
ReplyDeleteI support the idea of a box set as well as merch (specifically the sutton chops). I'm just sad to hear it's coming to an end.
ReplyDeleteI have a question Troy, after MH is done and over with, do you have any plans for another big project? If so, can you shed any light on it?
what extra period i'm not seeing it
ReplyDeleteTroy, if you just made a shirt with the Operator Symbol on it, I would buy it in every size available (just in case I gain/lose a lot of weight).
ReplyDeleteI FREAKING LOVE YOU.
ReplyDeleteIn a completely platonic, non-stalkerish kind of way.
And I'd definitely go for the box set. :D
I second everything that you said :D
DeleteExtra comma makes me squee. I got some of the best laughs ever before, so... yeah.
ReplyDeleteKinda sad to hear that it'll be ending, but on the other hand I knew it'd be coming and it's good to know you guys have a plan. Plus, since I got into Marble Hornets midway through this season, I'll get to watch a whole season as it goes up.
PLUS AHHH I just realized that it ending means you guys might finally reveal how you pull off some of those awesome effects, including our tall antagonist. I'm kinda excited to see how you make the magic work.
Q: Is the comedy series going to be delayed further or will it still begin toward the end of S2?
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe I missed that comma. From now on I treat all OOG stuff as IG!
ReplyDeleteAlso, that last question about your comedy series is a good one. Answer?
Hopefully in the next DVD you guys put out (assuming you do one), you explain more of the effects and stuff that went into Marble Hornets.
ReplyDelete^I second this
ReplyDeleteI did wonder how much of the potential season 1 commentary/outtakes/etc was cut to avoid season 2 and beyond spoilers. (Surely there must have been at least one case of the Operator tripping over and falling, right?)
ReplyDeleteWe're still working on a comedy series, and there's been some talk of having a few episodes be released between MH seasons, but we haven't really decided yet.
ReplyDeleteWe're also brainstorming on another "non-comedy" series that doesn't feature Joseph and I in any major roles (we figure people will get tired of us if we're in everything), but we've had no ideas worth acting on just yet.
But people could never get tired of you guys! You're too awesome! xD
DeleteDat period made my day almost as hard as the fact there would definitely be a MH season 3.
ReplyDeleteAlso more DVD's and merch? I would be totally down for that.
Dear Troy,
ReplyDeleteI am eleven years old, and a filmmaker. I am extremely inspired by your work and I LOVE Marble Hornets. I've probably watched all of your other videos... more than once. Anyway, I was just wondering, if you would say anything about the totheark videos. I looked through your entire blog and not once had you mentioned anything. Thanks, bye!
Haha I like the "i'm not david lynch" answer. Truth is, your horror style reminds me a little bit of his.
ReplyDeleteBut I LOVE giant ambiguous wads where nothing gets answered! Marble Hornets is ruined FOREVER!
ReplyDeleteAre you considering a movie adaptation?
ReplyDeleteAt the end of season 2, or season 3, will you explain what each totheark video actually meant or implied? TTA is my favorite aspect of the series and I'd love, when it is all done, to know what kind of work or effects went in to each video - and what each of them was trying to convey to our unwitting 'hero'.
ReplyDeleteWhen the whole shebang is done, could you please release a box set or something with two commentary tracks? The commentary on the S1 dvd was fun, but it wasn't that informative as to what was going on behind the scenes. The jokes during the TTA videos were also funny, but I'm dying to know more about their background (as the above poster stated). The best way I can think of to remedy the issue would be to have two tracks, one with you guys being your awesome funny selves and goofing off, and one where you actually comment on the videos. It'd be a shame to lack either one. :)
ReplyDeleteseems like if pawn stars can sell shirts when there just a pawn shop. MH could have a million better shirts
ReplyDeleteDid you draw that pic? That's awesome, I wanna see more of your art! XD
ReplyDeleteWhen do you plan on telling us about the phone call back in your last post?
ReplyDeleteJust want to say thanks very much to you guys for making such an awesome series that gives me reason to be excited every time a new entry is released. When I see that a new entry has been posted, it really just makes my day. You guys have done such an excellent job with this series, and we all really appreciate your hard work. I'd rather watch what you guys produce than half the stuff that comes from Hollywood. Keep up the excellent work.
ReplyDeleteSo...when are we going to see MH merchandise for sale? I would love a black jacket with the Operator Symbol on it...or a Slendy doll, of course.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for these last few episodes, and the third season. It's just going to be Alex road-tripping across Alabama looking for new people to hit with concrete bricks, isn't it?
ReplyDeleteWe can only hope >.<
DeleteI catched up with the series early this year, and it was fantastic, the atmosphere, the storytelling, they way that every entry it's a part of a bigger story but still have an individual thing it just make it almost impossible to guess what's going to happen next. Congratulations guys, greetings from Chile!
ReplyDeleteis it true that you bought Masky's mask, and the Slendy doll at Michaels? or Joanne?
