Do and Redo

Last week was brutal.

I came back to the alright-I-guess city of Birmingham for what is basically my annual summer-job-ish thing with Red Fox Media. My major's "special requirement" is to put in a couple hundred internship hours at an approved company before I can graduate, so I kind of gamed the system and got them to count something I've been doing for three summers straight anyway. I feel like I cheated by not begging to work with dozens of other production companies and getting rejected first.

I'm not used to having to wake up early and drive half an hour into work, so most of last week was spent trying to get over my college student sleep schedule. It wasn't much fun. I spent the weekend basically sitting around playing video games and sleeping in, which probably gummed up my weekday sleep schedule even more. Oh well.

Part of Sunday was dedicated to shooting MH stuff with Joseph. When I got the chance to look at the footage a few days ago, I wasn't really happy with it. The most important part of it at least. I forwarded it along to the big cheese, and he thinks we should redo the important shot. That pretty much guarantees a slightly longer wait than I originally thought for Entry #41. The internship definitely complicates our shooting schedule, too. I'll need to take the hour long drive to Tuscaloosa this weekend to get this one shot, but I'm hoping we'll have a chance to shoot the next entry as well. Nothing's been set in stone yet, though. Luckily, this internship isn't going to last all summer. Since I'm not really getting paid for it, I'm going to be able to leave as soon as the exact number of required hours have been hit. That'll free up a ton of time.

I know things feel like they've been updating slowly lately, and that Season 2 right now seems to be stuck in a loop of unhappiness perpetual state of "just getting started". I'm really sorry about that. We're trying hard to fix that feeling, but it's tough with all the things I'm having to juggle at the same time right now. So, as always, thanks for being patient with us.

I promise we'll make it all worth the wait.

  1. I'm sure you've heard this a thousand times and will continue to, but: Take your time.

I'd rather wait a month for an entry you are happy with then a week for one you aren't happy with.

  2. As long as the payoff is amazing, the wait will be worth it. While it's nice to have something new every week, having quality episodes is much more important

We've reached the stage of the series where most people expect the exposition to really go nuts. We're champing at the bit, wanting to know who a certain someone is, and what caused another someone to lose more than half a year of his life only to wake up in a strange hotel room.

You've got a lot of people hooked, Troy. We know we can count on you not to let us down; just keep doing what you do.

  3. Troy, it's just that... maybe Marble Hornets has grown up.

  5. Honestly, the fact that Entry #41 has anything in it that's considered "The important part," makes me extremely happy. Keep taking your time, whatever will ultimately make the series good is the best.

The other factor is the clusterfuck of questions you've raised, and while 40 was fricking scary, it did not answer any of them. Of course, I assume you are trying to convey some point about Jay's current situation with The Operator, and that is important to the plot...but seriously if it's not revealed who totheark is, I'm going to explode.

  6. Take you're time :3 I hope you get that sleeping pattern back on schedule though. You aren't being rushed at all. If its as good as you say it is, then I'll wait a zillion years :D

  7. Anyone who doesn't have the patience to wait for the next entry isn't worth the time listening to. They need to realize there's more to your life than just Marble Hornets and that things happen to get in the way. Whatever you need to do to ensure the level of quality you're striving for in your work, do it and don't be concerned about the impatient fans, they'll wait and perhaps join in on the numerous ongoing discussions going on already

  8. I've gotta say, the "loop of unhappiness" comment literally made me squee like the fanboy I totally am. The dialogue for Entry 7 should be a freaking meme. I quote it all the time. It's perfect.

..and like everyone else, I'm looking so forward to seeing where Part 2 ends up. :D

  9. Gotta agree with everyone who said to take your time, Troy. We love MH and it is definitely something worth waiting for. I'm glad to see y'all so dedicated to the quality that you're willing to go through the trouble of re-shooting! That's not often heard of in these days.
    Also entry 7 ftw.

  10. No worries, take your time. Recently moved house and so have been without internet for the past 2 weeks - I haven't even had a chance to see #40 yet!

So, if you could release #41 mid next week that would be great. Just enough time to watch #40, make my own theories, go over to uF and have them crushed and then rebuild my psyche in preparation for this "important shot".

  11. The fact that you put so much effort, time, and thought into a YouTube serial is really amazing. Most people would have just slapped it up there and called it good. Thank you for taking your time. :)

  13. Hey man, do what you need to do. I'd rather you take your time and save yourself some stress while putting out a quality product than rush it. We believe in you, so don't worry about it- like it was said, the only people who will complain aren't even worth listening to. Your dedication to this project is impressive and we all appreciate it.

That said I've been enjoying the DVD immensely. Just watched the commentary last night and was cracking up throughout. Oh god, the horror of Applebee's...
