The big cheese sent this to us on Saturday:
That's a lot of DVDs in there. I'm glad I wan't the one that had to get all of those ready.
From the looks of it, some of you are already getting them today. Horray! You'll be the first ones to see the fully finished product. Before any of us here, even. I hope it cuts the mustard.
I've been really paranoid about it, to be honest. After recording commentary and getting Terry Lynn to help create the cover art, I was pretty much in the dark about how everything was going to look once it was actually in your DVD player. I trust the big cheese quadruple checked it before sending it out, but there's still that little monster in the back of my head going "SOMETHING IS WRONG AND EVERYONE WILL HATE YOU FOR IT". I don't like hearing that, even though it sounds like a good debut album title.
Help put me at ease, those of you that have it. How does it look?
And those of you that have yet to receive them, please don't ask me when they'll be there, because I don't know. I wish I could hand deliver them all to be sure, but that would probably increase your wait by about 6 months. Market research suggests that would be labeled as "a bit too long".
I should have just driven back down there to get mine. Mine got sent to my mom's house, which is then mailed to me from there. >:l
ReplyDeleteI don't have it but you should totally get funding for a big screen production. Your stuff has scared me shitless more than anything else ever and still bothers me even as I type right now (looks out window), PLUS it's spawned 2 other amazing series that also disturb me no end. You deserve more credit!
ReplyDeleteIt looks nice man!
ReplyDeleteTroy, I would wait a year for it to get to me if it meant you were personally delivering them.
ReplyDeleteAs of now, I have not got mine yet, but I'm sure it'll get here soon!
"...there's still that little monster in the back of my head...."
ReplyDeleteSo film it and put it on Youtube :D
So far everything looks awesome, though the font on the Title Menu makes the 2's look like 3's, but I didn't really notice that until after I finished the commentary.
ReplyDeleteWhich by the way was hilarious. You gotta get Tim a litter box or something, so you don't need to worry about bringing him out so often.
It looks awesome! The text on the entry selection screen is a little small, but you can still read it.
ReplyDeleteThe cover and disks look great. Content is set up well. Can't look too deep at the moment, I've got a test to study for.
ReplyDeleteI think my only complaint is that the ToTheArk response videos don't have their titles, but that's really minor. I love the fact it still looks like Youtube videos, thus keeping that isolated grainy look.
ReplyDeleteWatching it on the DVD has actually reignited my fear :)
Only complaint is against the postal service for breaking the disc holders apart. The discs themselves were in great shape, at least. Very happy to have it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the Operator symbol on the package was a nice touch. :D
I am so excited for this DVD to arrive, like, you have no idea. :|
ReplyDeleteI have it, but I can't watch it for a while as I have no DVD player at my dorm room. Oh well. It's a small price to pay for owning my own copy. :)
ReplyDeleteEagerly awaiting my copy.
ReplyDeleteI live in England. This is gonna take a while. >_> But I'm freaking excited as hell ohmygodyes.
ReplyDeleteUSPS broke a bit of the disc holders on mine, but it doesn't look like the discs are terribly scratched. Haven't had the chance to check 'em out since I'm in the process of writing a 10-page paper, but i love the packaging and the operator symbol on the envelope :D
ReplyDeleteDitto definitely looking forward to this. So glad that people are enjoying it so far! I can not wait for the commentary, more than anything else... though if the text is small of others, I'm dreading seeing it on our junky old TV!
ReplyDeleteI got mine earlier today, its really amazing. I would HIGHLY recommend it to any moderate to mega Marble Hornets fan.
ReplyDeleteThat was great. The quality isn't good, but that's what it's supposed to be like. As others have said, the 2's really looked like 3's but that's really minor. I watched the commentary and I can't get over those totheark jokes, especially the one about the neutron.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful, and having it on DVD format makes it even better. Having it this way made the task of getting my dad to watch it easier, too. [He liked it! :D] I was floored to have gotten it today. Shipping was fast, I had this massive shit-eating grin the entire time it played, and I am now watching the bonus features. <3 BIG HUG FOR YOU~ *hugs*
ReplyDeleteeverything about the dvd is better than i ever hoped. I was worried that it would be static and horror as a menu, but it is actually really cool. i approve. nicely done. Can't wait fro more of season 2!
ReplyDeleteGot my copy today! It's a beautiful thing, Mr. Troy Wanger. A beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteThe DVD is great! I love the commentary and bloopers/deleted scenes :D
ReplyDeleteIt looks spectacular, Troy. Really. Its AWESOME. You can stop worrying. :)
ReplyDeleteI read "little monster" and immediately heard everything in Lady Gaga's voice. Now I can't unhear it.
ReplyDeleteI liked it, the DVD case was nice and the video menu was pretty neat. Loved the commentary :3
ReplyDeleteGot mine today, danced like a small child. Everything looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteI've been a huge fan of marblehornets since the first entries were uploaded, and I have to say that I was kind of disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI literally watched and read every single thing on the two DVDs in this single day. I rewatched every entry, then rewatched them all again with the commentary on, I read all of the tweets, looked at all of the twitter pictures, watched the trailer, read the bios, watched the bloopers, and watched the deleted scenes (after i post this, i am going to put the DVDs into my computer's CD drive to see if you hid anything on them because i can't shake the feeling that you did, even though I'm pretty sure you didn't).
My main beef is with the commentary. I was REALLY looking forward to getting a peek at the behind the scenes stuff (like how joseph had to climb the red tower, then the camera cut before the fall then you had the camera. or the boiler room and how it was an abandoned insane asylum and how there were graffiti dicks everywhere), but instead you guys pretty much neglected the entries the entire time you were commentating and just ended up talking about pizza combos and how tim left and came back about 17 times. I'd really like to get a look at the behind the scenes stuff :(
anyway, i hope the second season is even better than the first and hopefully answers more questions than it does create them. you guys are great film amkers.
I got a bunch of my friends huddled in my room to watch all of the episodes a few weeks ago. It was awesome and they all loved it. Tonight we watched the freshly delivered DVD in my dorm's theater room. It wasn't exactly optimized for HD playback which is understandable since the source footage was 480p, but having the distortion rock through two massive subs was worth the sub-par image quality.
ReplyDeleteGlad i was able to get in my order in time. You guys are fantastic!
I'm expecting mine at some point next week, or maybe a little later. Thats ok I suppose, I'm in no rush - I just want to see what you guys have hidden in there!
ReplyDeleteOverall, I was impressed. The commentary was hilarious, the bloopers were a treat, the deleted scenes were a nice bonus (although I can't shake the feeling that there is more to see there), and for the most part, the quality was pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI agree with a few people that the 'bonus' content was a tad underwhelming, but that's mostly due to me being a fellow film major and a huge 'bonus/special features' buff. I love the craft of movie-making, so it was sort of sad not to see or hear about your guys' process (something I've been interested in since first listening to the radio interviews on the troyhasacamera account). That said, what you did tell us was pretty sweet, and hilarious to boot.
My only other real complaint is on the font sizes - you really need to watch it on a good quality LCD/LED TV or upscale it onto an HDTV to see the text clearly (and this is coming from someone with 20/10 vision X_X) so next time around, that might be something to consider focusing on (just splitting the entries into two menus would've done the trick). Other than that, it was great. The video has some artifacting going on, but that's probably thanks to the compression used to fit everything on a DVD (did they do dual-layer or single-layer, by the way?) and honestly, it does focus on the YouTube video aesthetic quite well.
I rated it 9/10 on unFiction, and I'll stick to that score, although I think some tweaking and more in-depth special features would've bumped it up. Great work on the whole, Troy & company! I'm glad I (and the rest of your fandom) got this opportunity to support you guys!
Also, loved the festival trailer. Please submit and get accepted somewhere in the NJ area so I can see this in person (and of course meet you guys, y'know. :P )
( And since Blogger is being an ass, ryanjlelache.wordpress.com )
Troy, I'm mad that there's no video of people having sex in a car.
ReplyDeleteTROY. Troy, I HAVE IT, it's here, it's here. Troy.
ReplyDeleteI think it looks fantastic. The text is fine for me, but yes, I suppose it partially depends on where you're watching it. In a sense, both the misspelling on the back and the look of the menu fit in well with the whole theme.
Anyway. I should wait to do this until I've watched through all the features, but I can't. I CAN'T. Both the series and the DVD have been really well done. It's inspiring to know there are people with so much character out there doing things like this.
I got about two and a half minutes into the series with commentary and was listening to you give away the promise of potential streaking, and it struck me that by doing this, you're... letting hundreds of people in on all the personal stuff - the work, raw ideas, inside jokes. That must be strange at the very least. And it takes a very appreciable amount of nerve. Thank you. For letting us in on the stuff. Also, you're going to have hundreds of people repeating your inside jokes. Prepare.
Well, I'll be back once I've watched enough to know what I'm talking about. Brilliant job on all this.
I'm very disapointed the comentary is of such low quality. A few episodes were outstanding, (such as the one in the mental hospital- full of info!) but I really am not interested in hearing you guys talk about pizza and beer, I'm sorry to say. And the jokes were ill-received, I wanted to hear about the experimental film making on the TTA videos!
ReplyDeleteAnd your producer was not funny and derailed many an interesting prospect with the commentary. Shame on him.
I really agree with this ^
ReplyDeletei have already stated my opinion about the lack of behind the scenes stuff in the commentary, but the producer was seriously not funny at all and did derail the interesting conversations that were/could have happened.
Troy,
ReplyDeleteEveryone is giving such negative feedback to the commentary of the dvd. Personally, I thought it was great! I popped in the dvd, invited some people over, and watched all the tapes with the commentary. It allowed us to understand all of you guys's personalities, and the jokes during the totheark responses were great. I'm actually glad you didn't go too behind the scenes, because it still made me wonder how you do everything, which is good. Marble Hornets is all about how mysterious it all is, and if you gave all of that away, then a lot would have been taken away from the videos. All in all I thought it was a great dvd, and I was so glad i was FINALLY able to support you guys.
Thanks for the awesome series!
Hey Troy,
ReplyDeleteDVD looks fantastic and I got mine quickly, but there's a problem: I ordered and paid for two copies, the receipt that was in the package says "quantity: 2" and shows I was charged for 2, but it only contained one copy. Since I paid for two, this is rather concerning. If you could contact me to help me out on this (my twitter is Seekthethings) I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!
Waiting for mine in the mail still. I ordered it on the 7th, so it's a little weird. Maybe I barely missed the first batch. :/ Oh well, I don't get the super special typo version.
ReplyDeleteCame in today, very awesome. Not sure if I have the typo or not, although I'm pretty sure I got it. Totally worth it, and I hope you guys continue producing such awesomeness. I can't wait for the next TTA video and Entry 40!
ReplyDeleteI knew it came when I saw the Operator symbol on the envelope. I give the whole DVD 10/10
ReplyDeleteIt's been NINE days and I still don't have mine. I'm upset.
ReplyDeleteWatching the DVD with the commentary on I need to ask...Why is there no scene of people banging in a car?
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes, having now watched certain parts multiple times, I stand by what I said earlier. The work is evident, especially in the commentary. Yes, the style of commentary was unexpected for me as well, but it is not unwelcome. I agree (with Adam) that it gives insight into your personalities and your opinions of Marble Hornets just by the things you choose to say and things you choose to leave purely to the audience.
ReplyDelete(Your manager is not unfunny; it's just that you guys are the ones who created this, so naturally, your insights are much more hilarious.)
In addition, it's realistic and grounded, which it seems you personally try very hard to be; there were certain places where I would assume you consciously stopped yourself from delving too far into what you thought or what went into it. It's like a reminder not to be too worked up over things, because that pretty much always leads to disappointment. Not to become too obsessed. Well. Leaves mysteries still open, as per the norm. ;) It's just that this time, they're of a more specific nature. I love it. The trailer and everything else, too. Hey, to each his own.
The thing is that a little while on, after we've moved past the hype and novelty, the most valuable thing for a lot of people might be just having all the entries to themselves; being able to watch everything alone, no commentary, at their own pace, without the temptation to get input from a thousand other people who want to... break down the game into parts, if you will. Nightmares. Nightmares forever.
P.S. I'm sorry, but I have to. Joseph didn't write the bios, did he?
11 days and no dvd.
ReplyDeleteAlright, who do I get mad at?
^ I'm with him. I ordered my copy on April 7th; what gives, man?
ReplyDeleteLoving the dvd, kids. Awesome work. I haven't watched the commentary myself but my boyfriend watched it (without me) and loved it . . . I generally just watch commentary for any random funny things that may or may not be said so I don't think i'll be disappointed from the sound of it. Troy - you're awesome, continue to be awesome.
ReplyDeleteits been 2 weeks; what happened to the second shipment?
ReplyDeleteThey are now having Tim hand deliver all the dvds. Seriously do you know how long it takes to go from deliver to delivery, get into their house, find the right room, sit over them while they sleep, then give each person the dvd when they wake up.
ReplyDeleteWhile listening to Troy, Joseph, and Tim have fun just messing around in the commentary, I really wished it would be more... informative. Other than that, though, it's a decent buy, especially when you consider the fact that it's supporting the series.
ReplyDelete(which is why I'm kinda angry that the blooper reel is already on YouTube...)
